america sucess or failure Essay -- essays papers

america sucess or failure America-success or failure is a broad topic. This question can be looked at differently from the multi-cultural races that make up America. The most likely theory is America is a success, but with continual change and improvement, she can become more. To prove this theory we will discuss essential events, from past to present that will champion this theory. The period we will cover is from the 1950’s to present day. The political mood, social changes, and domestic situations brought forth many changes in American history. To define America’s success, civil rights comes to the forefront. America has had a long history of racial and unequal rights division amongst its diverse ethnic groups. During the 1950’s, severe treatment of African Americans was very noticeable. Slavery may not exist today, but brutal treatment of blacks continued. Discrimination was a way of life for white America. The South may have lost the war but the battle continued. And Black Americans during these times were less then men in the eyes of many White Americans. Education changed many of the views of White Americans, and the will of certain Black Americans who, regardless of the consequences, were tired of being citizens but not equal. ‘In September 1946 President Harry Truman met with a group of African American leaders to discuss the steps that needed to be taken to achieve their goals. They asked for support of a Federal Anti-Lynching law, abolish a poll tax as a voting requirement, and establish a permanent board to prevent discriminatory practices in hiring. Congress refused to address any of these concerns.’(America Pathways to the Present) It is hard to believe such issues existed in America with such a large multi-racial representation as we have. However, momentum carried Civil Rights forward and brave people like Rosa Parks and Martin L. King brought attention to the wrongs that were being committed. These heroic acts met with violence from America. Technology was key in changing public opinion when this violence came into the living rooms of neutral Americans. Black unity grew and white support continues to grow. The dramatic turning point according to this theory was Martin L. King’s march on the capital and his famous speech â€Å"I have a Dream†. This event was the largest public protest against discrimination and t... ..., lesbian, and bisexual people to serve openly in the U.S. military, a 19-point jump from 1997. (NGLTF Policy Institute Report From Wrongs to Rights, PG 12.) The fact that the gay and lesbian community has made progressive accomplishment is proof that America is succeeding. Twenty years ago the mere mention of this could ruin a person’s life or career. With time and education the Gay and Lesbian community is gaining equal rights, but improvement is always needed. Many measures have been taken to block Gay and Lesbian rights for example a religious activist group failed in its efforts to place initiatives attacking the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender community on the November ballot in four Michigan communities this week. Initiatives failed to make the ballot in Royal Oak, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids and Traverse City, while the results of a similar attempt in a fifth city, Grand Ledge, was not known.’ (NGLTF Policy Institute Report From Wrongs to Rights, P g. 14) America is not perfect, but there is nothing to compare it with in the world. I hope that for the sake of our next generation who will inherit this country we will have and even greater success to speak about.

Crimes and Misdemeanors Essay

â€Å"Crimes and Misdemeanors† Woody Allen’s, â€Å"Crimes and Misdemeanors†, film paints a realistic picture of the real world in which we all live. His film brilliantly portrays the lives of how a large amount of people across this globe live their own life and does not attempt to â€Å"sugarcoat† any event that occurs in the movie; he merely tells it how it is and provides information for what people should expect in todays world. Allen takes on the issue of the human races’ true beliefs of morality and what actually happens in he real world, in contrast to what typically takes place in movies. Allen transpires different events throughout his movie that create a lingering question for his audience on the thoughts of morality in a â€Å"godless† community. Adultery, lies, and murder were only a small sum of the crimes that were committed in Allen’s movie. However, the question becomes how the characters reacted to their own acts of immorality. The most in depth storyline in this movie was that of Judah Rosenthal, who comes to the conclusion that in a world devoid of godly resence, all acts are permissible, even adultery and murder. Once a person erases their belief on certain morals and values, it is much easier for them to erase crimes or immoral acts they have committed from their mind as being immoral. Judah does an extraordinary Job at showing this in the movie when he finds out that someone else was arrested for the murder of Dolores; he automatically knew he was off the hook and made himself believe he did no wrong. By doing this he was capable of going on and living his life. Another main character in Allen’s movie, was one layed by him himself. Throughout the movie Cliff embarked on new ideas and experiences because they were his passion and what he believed, however at the end of the movie we watch as Cliff loses everything he believed in from his love, his career, and his family. Many may question why Cliff would lose everything if he had so many good strong beliefs and how Judah can move on with his life even after being involved in a murder. However, the answer according to this movie is simple. We as the human race, define ourselves by our choices, with the absence of god. In he issue concerning Cliff losing everything he believed in, it wasn’t necessarily a punishment, but in all actuality shows how it can be relevant to real life. Not all times, does a person with good morals get what they want. In addition, Judah was going to move on with his life no matter if he had a religious background or not. Judah saw the world as, once God is gone all things are permissible, which shows his true morals and values as a person. His character depicts the life of one who has done wrong and escaped punishment in their life at some point, which again can be pplied to the real world on a daily basis. Regarding the different situations that occur all across this movie, it is shown that there can be a sense of morality in our world without the belief of a certain religion. This movie portrays many types of religious beliefs within the characters and then goes on to show that even people who do not necessarily believe in God, still have morals they might Just value certain areas more than others. God is essentially a the absence of god, anything anyone wants to make permissible to their own self can be made permissible.

Evaluation Of A Classroom Plan - 1987 Words

Classroom Plan Bernadette Petty ECE 332: Child Development Instructor: Melanie Rodriguez Date: July 23, 2016 Classroom Plan For my classroom plan, I chose to discuss a preschool room. I will talk about what I think Piaget’s stage theory is in my words. I will also identify and describe the development characteristics of preschool children. I will create a layout of a preschool classroom, and I will create an activity that goes with each development. Piaget’s stage theory is that children learn in stages (Lefrancois, 2012). Piaget states that children’s learning and growth are gradual. In the pre-school age children have moved pasted the infancy stage and are in beginning the middle part of the preoperational stage (Lefrancois,†¦show more content†¦The third stage is the concrete operations stage from ages 7-11. In this stage children have learned to consider others thoughts and feelings as well as their own and are now able to process more complex thinking (Lefrancois, 2012). Piaget also felt that direct teaching instead of using an example, was better for children to learn because children learn from their experiences (Lefrancois, 2012). According to Piaget a child’s knowledge grows from using concrete objects, objects of different sizes, shapes, colors, and the child learns to sort, classify, compare, and sequence, they make discoveries, they experiment, and they modify their way of thinking (Lefrancois, 2012). Children should have a variety of toys and materials to experiment with and teachers should let the children in the preschool age explore, play make believe, and involve themselves with the children so that they are able to learn on their own with guidance. Developmental characteristics for the pre-school age group are language development, cognitive, physical, social and emotional. Language development at this time should include using short sentences at the beginning of preschool, at least three to five words (Building,) Children are able to make comments and request, like saying something is pretty or asking for a snack. During language development children

Workshop Activities on the Soil Erosion - MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: 1. How effective has the 10% contact cover been in reducing soil erosion by rainfall? 2. On what slope the cover was most effective in reducing rainfall erosion? 3. What was the effect of slope on sediment concentration and soil loss? 4. Discuss the interaction between slope and surface contact cover on soil loss and sediment concentration. Answer: Answer 1 Erosion is enhanced by the speed of the moving water and by reducing the amount of exposed surface, there is a reduction in the number of sediments transported downslope. Majorly, erosion is of four types which are as a result of direct rainfall: sheet, rill, splash and gully erosions. However, of the four processes, splash erosion is the initiator which is followed by sheet erosion while rill and gully follow it consecutively. It has been noted that the most severe of the erosion processes is the splash erosion which is caused by the raindrops falling on the bare surface. The raindrops have the kinetic energy to dislodge the soil particles from the matrix and therefore initiate the erosion process. Therefore a reduction in the amount of surface exposed to the rain results to a decrease in the amount of erosion. The experiment indicates that erosion for the slopes with gradients of 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% and 10% is higher on surfaces without cover than on the same surfaces with cover. However, the same is not true for the surfaces with slopes of 1%, 3%, 5%, 7% and 9%.The discrepancy has been rectified by the line of best fit. However, comparison may be observed on a bar graph. Answer 2 Slope gradient, as well as the amount of cover provided, determine the number of sediments transported by runoff. Therefore, it can be said that a 0% gradient does not result into any runoff because the rainwater does not have enough energy to transport the soil downslope. An increase in gradient is likely to lead to an increase in the amount of erosion and as it has been demonstrated from the experiment, a 10% cover on the 2% gradient has the most predominant cover to erosion. The 2% gradient has prevented soil loss by approximately 46.66 % compared to the other slopes which have slightly lower effects on the soil loss. Answer 3 According to the data obtained from the experiments, the slopes do have a profound effect on the soil loss as well as the sediment concentration. However, it is important to note the type of surfaces used in the experiment. In determining the sediment concentration, there is a comparison on slopes with the strip and those with no strips. On the other hand, analyzing soil loss involves surfaces with cover and those with no cover. Increase in slope has the effect of increasing the sediment concentration on the no strip slopes. This can be observed from the 3% gradient all the way to the 10% gradient. In this regard, the 10% gradient has the maximum sediment concentration with 30.365g/l. As with the strip slope, the sediment concentration increases all the way to the 8% gradient but reduces the 9% before increasing. As with the no cover surfaces, there is an increase in soil loss with the 8% gradient having the maximum soil loss with a loss of 918.032g/m2/ hour. As with the surfaces with cover, the amount of soil loss increases from the 2% gradient with the maximum soil loss observed in the 7% gradient (1765.416 g/m2/hour).Therefore, an increase in gradient results to an increase in the sediment concentration as well as the soil loss. Answer 4 There are primarily two factors that determine the amount of erosion on any surface: the amount of vegetation/cover and the gradient of the slope. The gradient is proportional to the erosion while the surface cover is inversely proportional to the erosion. As it can be observed from the experiment, surfaces with cover and those with no cover have different rates of soil loss. In this regard, those with cover have a reduced rate of erosion compared to those with no cover.
